HELP!! SBC wont fire!
I have the motor all nice an in the boat. IT certainly has fuel and spark, but I just cant get it to light and run. It just back fires through the exhaust or carb. If I advance the timing it goes more through the carb, if I back it off I get neat flames out the pipes. I thought it may be the points so I converted the Mallory dist to electronic. I tripple checked the firing order, and timing, wtf is going on?

The last time I saw that , everything was perfect except the plug wires were in the cap backwards (wrong rotation) .

Oh crap. That is very possible. I've been working on Fords for a long time and wired it as if the rotor rotates clockwise. Is this correct?

I think they should fire all those idiots at SBC.... Err oh... wait were talking engines.. sorry. It looks to me that you stabbed your distributer 180-deg off. BTW the roter does rotate clockwise on a SBC.

The rotor rotates clockwise, but cylinder numbering is different than Ford. I did this once on a Ford 460, and spent 2 days trying to figure it out, til my buddys brother figured out how much of an idiot I was, wired it like a chevy!!!!
