raw water pump specs
Finally getting some progress on the old Challenger.....took out the raw water pump. Impeller was bad, got the Merc replacement. I did some backchecking on threads to answer my question but couldnt find what I was looking for. So here goes...it has a plastic unit, and on the back has LH and RH rotation. I never ran the boat myself so I want to make sure that I am doing everything right. What should be the correct orientation for a std. rotation 454? Also what is the torque spec on the 5 bolts? . I see that alot of the guys here have problems with the old muff style flushers and burning up these impellers. THanks again. You guys have really been a great help and I really appreciate all the input I have been getting on my boat. THis thing was kind of a basketcase and I have been trying to do it relatively low buck. Hope all is well for you guys too.

Normal is LH rotation. Determined from veiwing flywheel from the rear looking forward. Rotates CCW, top to the left.
Torque 10-15, or just snug.
Lube up the impellor with dish soap and slip that bugger in, don't woory about impellor vanes orientation. They will self orientate at 1st 1/4 rev.
