Angry TRS mechanic may have made BIG Mistake--can anyone help?

They pput boat in water yesterday for inital test--and had the prop's on wrong drives so had to run in reverse to go forward!!!

Instead of changing the ran damned boat up and down river a few times--at speed !!!

Did they cause any immediate problems or am I in line for something serious after they turn boat over to me ??

TRS Drives with BW trans on a Formula SR357--

Would really appreciate ASAP feedback--

I am amazed the transmissions did not fail instantly. Won't hurt the drives, but will hurt the transmissions. hate to say it but you could have a problem. We see it all the time.

Since TRS drives are specifically LH and RH, why don't you think any damage may have been done??

I can't think of a reason the drive would care. It would just load the opposite side of the gears. The transmisisons are another story. Forward is 1:1 and no gears are involved, reverse has a planatary reduction gear set with limited capacity.

Mark thanks for reply--even though it's not encouraging.

I have no doubt this will turn into a pi$$ing contest with marina--they will say trans were older and were failing anyway---but at least service manager, service super, dockmaster and tec were involved and knew that props were reversed and they chose to run test in revers.

Probably will have luck similar to lotto winnigs on the outcome

If anyone else has feedback on what to look for immediately and what to watch for as indicators I'd appreciate help--

The "service" department is telling me now that the trannies are "Velvet Drives" and they have gears instead of clutches so running in "reverse" is "NO PROBLEM".

As a part of this conversation they told me that TRS drives accomplish counter-rotation by reversing transmissions and that drives are identical and the L and R markings on prop shafts are meaningless.

Do reputable Mercruiser shops have "errors and ommissions" insurance?

The BS saga continues--any suggestions ??

wow! i would run away from these guys! You can look up the parts on BAM's site at www.mercruiserparts.com and see that the lower gears are specific on if its a L or R rotation. I once made this maictake before i found the internet and smoked a trans even before we got on plane! lesson learned i guess......and thats when i found BAM. Wish i knew of him before i went to the local guy here and got bent over! I would have them put something in writeing about this whole incident so you have some sort of ammo against them when it does go bad......

This is wrong, running in reverse you have a small clutch Pack, Mbam please correct me if I am wrong. The TRS accomplishes direction of rotation by the gears in the lower unit. These guys just don't want to admit they are wrong.

Good luck,

Jack Jr.
