Default Fed up with Dominator, any ideas on where I can send it ?

I've had this carb for the past 4 seasons and for 3 of them it worked great.
With a .700" , 254/262 dur solid roller cam it would idle at 700 in gear all day long , boat ran great etc.
Well I put a smaller cam in this year (for valvetrain longevity) and am having idleing issues. I think I have this thing pretty close but am at wits end with it.
It was close one weekend, 4.5pv's in it , 90 jets squared. Just a little rich.
I ran a poker run and the boat ran irratically. I later find out that one of the pv's came apart. The little retainer and spring were bouncing around in the float bowl. I installed a 5.5pv (all that was availble this holiday weekend) and dropped the mains to 89 squared. It starts and idles fine just like before but now when I get off plane it won't come down to an idle. I put it in neutral , it will idle at 1800rpms I then shut it down and instantly restart and it is fine again. Why the lean spot after coming off plane ? If anything the 5.5pv should be a little richer at an idle.
I'm tired of working on it. Any suggestions on were to send it ? Quickfuel,BG ?

Which Dominator do you have. What size and stamped number, probably 8082 or 8896.

Sent my dominators to Dean Nickerson. Came back perfect (after providing all of the engine specifics).

Good luck.

I agree with waterbum. Send it to Dean. He is a good guy that knows his chit.

Had my 850 done by Dean Nickerson. When I had the engine dynoed the dyno operator told me that it had one of the smoothest fuel curves he had seen. I had some tuning issues (mine not theirs) and they were very helpful. I have had a carb done by Barry Grant and was not happy at all. When I phoned them with a question I got the "how dare you question us" attitude. Do yourself a favour and call Dean.

I had a 1050 Dominator on a 502 with solid roller that came back just about perfect after Dean went through it and made several mods. Ran like **** before that, fouling plugs, etc. Not sure of your motor size, but 90's sound like a lot of jet with PV's. Only issue I had was a lean condition in the intermediate transition (motor would stumble unless I gave it a couple of shots of fuel before I went through..~3000-3200 rpm), the only way I could correct it was to put bigger jets in, but it was to rich on top then. I just lived with it because I wanted a clean transom. Sold the boat at the end of that season to move to a cat. Mine had something like 80 / 86 jets, PV's blocked.

In summary a 1050 was just too much carb for fully ported iron head, solid roller 252/[email protected] .680/.708" on 114 CL, 502 single plane.... IMO.

Dean will work with you until its right, and yours sounds like something relatively simple. My guess is air bleeds.
