What are the differences between 502MPI and a 500EFI ??
I have two 502 MPI motors that I would like to bump up the power to around the same as a 500 EFI. What is different between the two?? I know that the cam has to be changed. What else needs to be changed?? I need to keep compression to 8.5 to 1
Can I get my 502 MPI with 415 horses to around 500-525 without alot of hassle?? I am also putting Whipples on after I go thru the motors. I am very familiar with how these motors need to be setup for blower use. In the end I would like to be around 750-800 per motor with the blowers making around 8 psi intercooled boost. Will this be possible??
Thanks for any input guys.

Re: What are the differences between 502MPI and a 500EFI ??
Both motors have the identical bottom end other that the cam's. Both have 8.75 compression and GM square port heads. The EFI's are different from design but I do not think one is better than the other. I think Merc just switched to the one used on the 500EFI.
The cam in the 500 EFI is a hydraulic roller, about 230/236@ .050. The 502 has a hydraulic cam, not real sure of the spec, but it pretty small.
The heads on the 500EFI have Severe Duty intake, Inconnel Exhaust valves, dual coil springs, and crane gold roller rockers. The 502 uses GM non adjustable valve train and GM valves.
Any upgrades you do will more than likely need a ECU programming.
If you going to install the Whipple, I would follow any upgrades they recommend to the letter.
Good luck
