Biggus? How are your buddies 383 crate motors doing?
I am having my engine pulled in the cig 20 on tuesday and looking into my repowering options. How are his crate 383's holding up. I assume your boating season has been over for a while now. How many hours did he get to put on them? Did you guys check for clearance issues before you installed them? Was there anytrhing that needed to be done with the exhaust valves? Thanks for any input.

Hi JGB,
The ZZ383's work incredible. My buddy Dave finished the install the end of July. He put about 30 trouble free hrs on them and this guy likes to put the throttles down and leave them there! (I was in the boat for a 14 mile ride at no less than 5500rpm) Other than dressing them with CMI headers, Air Gap intakes, decent oil coolers and 800 Holley's, they are bone stock. Never even removed valve covers.
His 26 Sutphen picked up a solid 10 mph on GPS over the stock 260 Mercruisers.
No clearance issues at all. Just bolted them in.
I think they are a great deal at $4850.00 from Pace (thanks Iggy)

thanks for such a quick reply Kurt. Sounds like a sweet up for a small block application. Do you have an idea what an air gap intake and the carb would cost new? For my budget I am currently looking at off year merc 6.2 mx complete for 6250 or going the 383 crate route. Thanks a lot.

I mised this one.
Biggus, I'm glad his engines are doing well. I've been wondering since you said he had them up and running.
Hope they run as well all next year too.
Now, all I need is to hit the lotto or rob a bank and I can replace my tired 350 MAG.
