According to the merc service manual that I have, Rev limiter is set at 5100 with a recommended operating range of 4600-5000. If you want to raise it , go with a MSD soft touch with a 5200 or 5400 chip. You need to find out where your peak HP is and at what rpm it is at. Generally anything over that is not going to produce any better results. You would be just spinning the motor and your HP would start to drop after you have reached your peak rpm. Hope this helps.

Ok, 5175??

Seriously, I thought it was like a range of 4600-5000 max so 5100-5200 range might be right for rev limiter.??

My 1996 502 Mag, GenVI, is set at 5050 according to the Merc Service Manual or 5100 according to the owners manual if that helps at all.

How accurate are your tachs? Has anyone noticed when the limiter kicked in what the tach was reading?

Good question about tach accuracy. I remenber seeing 5100-5200 on occasion expecting the rev limiter to kick in but it did not.
