The speedos go to a 100 because it makes them look sportier, just like the old transam's that had 160mph speedo's! The real question is why do they always read 3-7 mph too fast,it makes all these guys with 62-67 mph boats think they run into the 70's,especially the single engine boats!Smitty

Wish I had gotten one that just read 3 MPH faster, much less 7 MPH!!!
Cannot say I have ever run across one that was 7 MPH fast?
In the 212 Islander in was within 1 MPH to the GPS, the 272 Boss was actually 1 MPH slower than the GPS and the one in the 36 was "Dead Nuts On". I would not have replaced it if it had read faster!

I think the gaffrigs are pretty damn close. My 29 showed 30mph on the speedo and the gps showed 36.
I sent it in to gaffrig, told them to speed it up a little, it came back dead nuts. I told them to make it 5mph fast but they wouldnt.
My brothers faria gauge shows his 25 outlaw with a 496ho going 78mph, gps shows 66.

Back when my boat was stock(272 baja) it read 66 mph on the gaffrig speedo but actual was 62.5 on gps. I hear the dealers drill the pitot tubes to make them read higher,Smitty

why would drilling the pickups make any difference? Speedos work with water/air pressure, not volume.
My gaffrig is right on until the last 10 mph, then it gains some MPH over my GPS. I just figure the higher quality speedos are more accurate because the speedo itself is a more accurate air pressure gauge, which is all they really are.
