25Outlaw vs. 27 Fountain
With similar power which is faster? Which is better in slop?
The question was asked in another forum and I would like to see the opinions here.

Re: 25Outlaw vs. 27 Fountain
The Fountain will be faster with the same power. I have freinds with both and where I boat the ride is pretty much even. The OL is a little wider, but I like the bigger cockpit on the OL. Both are nice boats.

Re: 25Outlaw vs. 27 Fountain
I posted my answer to this on Speedwake already but I'll post here too. One of the guys of this board has a 27 ft fountain and he can break into the 70's with 3/4 tk of gas,2 passengers and a cooler in freshwater at 600 ft elevation. Most 25 outlaws I have gps'd against my 272 Baja run 66-68 mph with similar load (stock) so I'd say there is a honest 2-3 mph difference,Smitty

Re: 25Outlaw vs. 27 Fountain
You know it always seems that we have one of these comparision posts and there gets to be problems, hard feelings, etc.
I suggest that you go drive BOTH boats if you are interested in both and see for yourself.
I have owned three Baja's and they have served me very well.
I have more friends with Fountains then any other brand and I really like Fountains. Reggie builds a very high quality boat and a 42 is one I would be proud to own. I have driven a 29, two 35's a 38 and a 42.
Let me share this with you and you take it from there. A friend broke down and called us to come when we had the 272 and tow him in. It was a busy weekend on Lake Norman and it gets rough. Our friends with a 29 Fountain with a 500EFI were at the same resturant and climbed into our boat to ride with us and visit with us during this time. When we returned to the dock the wife asked her husband why their 29 did not ride as good as our 272?
The other friend with a 29 also with a 500EFI was about 8 to 10 MPH faster then us, but when it really got rough he really slowed down. I always said it was not the size of the boat or the top end on perfect conditions but the actual "Usable Speed". My 272 only ran about 66 MPH but it rode so well that we could run that speed on the busiest weekend on Norman.
One last story. March 2004, Savannah, Ga. at the Dt. Patricks Fun Run. Six boats heading out the Savannah River together and there was a small craft advisory. One 35 Fountain, our 36 Baja, a 36 Gladiator, 31 Bullet, 36 Apache and a 35 Cig Cafe. The 35 Fountain was smoking out the river. The only boat as fast in the group was the 36 Cig. We had a couple in our boat that had ridden in the others the day before on the ICW and wanted to see how our boat rode. As we got to the mouth of the ocean we ALL passed the Fountain. About two miles out we realized we had lost the Fountain and called him on the cell. He said it was too rough and had turned back. We all played around and got some really good air shoots before returning.
The 27 is the smallest of the Fountains!

Re: 25Outlaw vs. 27 Fountain
Dock...thanks for the input....sorry for the comparison, I didn't intend for it to get ugly. I currently have a 25 Outlaw and I am very pleased. I was just wondering what others thought of speed with similar power. Thanks again.

Re: 25Outlaw vs. 27 Fountain
I was at a poker run 2 years ago and there was a 27 fountain and a 25 outlaw that were trying to run with me. I have a 302 that runs about 68-69 consistently. It was not rough but there was a good amount of boat chop and it did get a little hairy at times. I was running at 3/4 and had the boat on a nice fast cruising pace.
These two boat came up behind us and wanted to race. Neither could keep up with me when I laid the boat out but they were not far off. I backed down a hair to run with them and the fountain could beat the ol but he was really pushing the boat and as soon as he would get ahead he would have to back off. The guys in the 25 ol never backed off and kept the hammer down. That said, the 27 was definitly faster but it did have a hard time even keeping up with the 25 ol.
I am not really partial to either boat but I do like the layout of the 25 ol better.
Oh yeah both boats had the same power.

Re: 25Outlaw vs. 27 Fountain
One more fact-
The real length of the Fountain is actually closer to 24 feet, so the 25 Outlaw has more usable running surface.
We all know Fountains are faster than their counterparts when the water is relatively calm. When it gets really snotty the boats that are a little slower will just keep going and not worry about slowing down. what good is 5 extra mph if you can only use it comfortably when the water is calm???
