opinions on 30 outlaw mods
30 Outlaw w/ 496HO's
So, in looking for a little extra,
-we know that the new CMI's are $7200(3-4mph allegedly).
- Looking at Stern Jacks but with hydraulic steering, there seems to be alot of mods that have to me made. $4000(guessing and honest 3-4 mph and not 10% as advertised)
-Now does anyone have any experience with stand off boxes for this set up? Cost? Does it serve the same purpose as the Stern Jacks?
What do you guys think?

In the case of standoff boxes everyone says Baja's don't typically react well to them. That is for the older models. Baja does offer boxes for all the twin engine models but I think it is an option box that is left empty a lot.
Personally I would go for the CMI's & have the propellers worked. I'm not a fan of supercharging the 496's because of the internals, but there are gettin gto be more & more blown 496's out there that are living.
If you are going to do anything that will bring the boat to 70mph & above, which it is allready, I'm sure. Hydraulic steering is a no-brainer option. It is safer & easier to drive. Period.
Stren jacks may work, but they are ugly & I refuse to allow you to put them on. Unless you buy me some Imco boxes for my boat.

Extention boxes are intended to allow for more trim
leverage, and allow higher drive mounting.
( much to what a notched transom accomplishes)
Generally, ( unless using a IMCO w/3" of raise)
putting boxes on an exsisting transom cut out
will, in effect, lower your drive height.
You can add short lowers to bring get things back up,
but there goes more $$$$
There are also issues steering rigging...... more $$$.
I'd do the exhaust before anything.
( Some Bravo shop 2" shorties and 5 blades might
be interesting though.)

I'd like to try some 2" Imcos instead of the 1" ones I have now & the 5 blades, but I ain't going to drop that much coin on an experiment that will probably have poor results.
