2006 Baja 405, anyone own one?
I checked out the 405 today at Thunder Marine. Seems like a nice boat. This one had 496HOs so it is not the fastest boat. They said 62 mph.But it seemed like a condo on the water. I could not believe the head room down below. They offer it with 600s but have not done one yet. They estimated 72mph from the factory. This seems slow to me? To only gain 10 mph while adding 350 hp to the boat. The boat weighs 10,100 lbs and it will only do 72mph with 1200 hp? Any pros/cons I should know about? I will be taking a test ride next month on this boat and a Cobalt 343 with the same power. With all the same options the Baja is about $7,000 more than the Cobalt. Anyone own one to give me some honest positive and negative feedback. Thanks Mike

I saw the first hull they built at the Lake Cumberland poker run last September and really liked it. Then we saw one at the Miami boat show and it had many improvements over the first one.
Personally I like them. I think Baja did a very nice job of combining performance and cruiser into one trailerable package.
I will say that I heard a lot of positive comments about the one in Miami from non-Baja folks.
Baja has sold all the build slots for the 405 this year, so I would say they are going to be a hit.
Go test drive both the Baja and the Cobalt and see which one you like best. I don't think you can go wrong with either boat.

You mention the speed of these things, but they aren't performance boats. If you want speed, buy an Outlaw. If you want comfort, the 405 IMO is a beautiful boat.
I saw the one from Thunder Marine when I was at the STL boat show (and have some pics of it too), and I also boarded the one at Cumberland that Doc speaks of. I'm impressed with the quality of them. The lounger in the bow is the best. Seems pretty comfortable. For the price, it seems like a pretty good buy.
