I own a new 2005 30 Outlaw with HO’s and 4 blade Bravo props which has just recently been run-in and since the best number I have seen with ½ tank two people is 74 GPS but only once, 72 is solid and all she wants to do. I’m disappointed with 72 and I’m starting to wonder if something is wrong with my boat looking at all these number posted here. People running high 70’s stock, and 80 with lab props. Granted I’m only turning 4500~4600 RPM but find it hard to believe I will get another 8 MPH from 500 RPM. Since I’ve seen 74 even thought just once, I believe 76 may be possible in my boat with lab props.

So why so slow, maybe it’s due to my boat having so many options that add weight, SST, AC/DC Galley, Livorsi GPS Speedo, Dual Batteries, Transom Shower, 9 gal fresh water on board, pump out head, Clarion Performance Plus, 2 amps, 14 Speakers, two remotes w/6 disk CD, Cabin Table, Snap in Carpet, Compass, Quick & Quite Plus, Depth Finder, Pop-up Cleats. I also carry a 17# anchor w/6’ chain and 150’ x ½” rope, Four 25’ dock lines, Three 30” Fenders, an AK 47, 9mm, just the necessities. So who actually owns a 30 that is running these big numbers and at what RMP? What optional equipment does it have and how is it loaded?

Do you trim your drives up when going at WOT?

Yes, Tabs-up, Trim-up to around 6 or 7+ on the indicator or until I sense ventilation. Speaking of ventilation from 1500 ~ 2800 the boat has no bite whatsoever it takes 3100+ to get enough bite to get on plane I’m guessing this is normal? I start w/tabs down to keep it level and tab all the way up as it planes then start trimming out. Atmospheric conditions have some affect, my boats always ran about 2~3 mph faster at LOTO than in Phoenix. So I believe 77+ in the Midwest, I’ll see what she can do in Havasu later this month. I’ll use this lake elevation and running stats to get the props done and see what that does.

I run 496 375HP and run 72 GPS all day. (74 Best GPS) with just about the same options you have. That is with 3/4 tank of gas and three people. I run my drives at # 5 and my tabs on # 2. Turning stock bravo 26. Going to move up to 28 and try to pick up a couple of MPH.

There are a lot of factors that could be influencing your top end, but before spending a lot of money try more trim at WOT. I noticed with our boat alot of trim is required to hit an optimum top speed. Try trimming the boat up even more, you may be surprised to see the speedo climb. I think it is a tradeoff-rpm vs. slip. Slip can be a good think if it is allowing your prop and motor to spin faster creating more HP and speed.

before wasting money on a 28 i would have the 26 labbed to get a couple hundred more rpms unless your tacking out now. if you have room for more rpms the 28 will slow you down do to the fact you will not spin it fast enough. you want to prop your boat to the max recomended rps so figure out what your at now first before you make changes.

weve all been there and props become a waste of money when thay slow you down.

AZOUTLAW,
I personally test drove a 30 at the end of season last year with just the 375 mags and hit 74.1 on my GPS. I was reluctant to believe the salesman when he told me 73 to 74 with the mags (I wanted HO's) so I took my hand held GPS and he was right on the money. It was running labbed 26 Bravo's. Just my $.02

if your running non labbed 26 now and in the limiter then a 28 should work well for you and you will see some top end increase. if it does not get to max rpms then you could lab the 28 and be there.

good luck

New numbers, 2005 30 Outlaw, 496 HO, 28p B1 Stock, GPS Speedo.

Lake Havasu
485’ Elevation
Humidity 8%
Temp 101 deg.
Wind Calm
P 4750 RMP
S 4650 RPM
1’ chop
Full Tank, 4 people, loaded with gear 75mph, still on Tattletale.
Half Tank, 2 people 73 mph, go figure….

Lake Pleasant
2100’ Elevation
Humidity 7%
Temp 91 deg.
Wind 7 mph
P 4600 RMP
S 4500 RPM
1’ chop
72 MPH

This boat will not come out of the hole unless you hammer it to 3100+ RMP you cannot come on plane by slowly increasing the throttles, the props loose all bit around 2000 RPM, the engines rev up and the boat loses all forward motion, I was told this is not
normal. This boat must run around 33+ mph to stay on plane I hear this is high. I’m being told the “X” dimension is too high for this boat.

I’m not totally disappointed with the boats (stock) performance, I actually like the fact the boat runs best with a full tank and four people but the gas does not last long. The low RMP’s can easily be solved with the right props but I kinda like the mid range with the 28’s. Some people have recommended I try 26p others like Mercury say lab the 28’s, what to do?. First I’m off to measure my “X” Dimension and will post the number here later; I would be interested to know if all 30 Outlaws have the same “X”.

Any thoughts?
