Re: Outlaw 29 7.4/310HP Fuel Usage
For reference here are actual numbers off the labtop from this last weekend.
Merc 500 EFI's - 36 Baja - Full Fuel - 4 People - 90 Degrees
Engine RPM****Gallons Per Hour
850 Idle********2.36
1534**********3.27
2148**********7.97
2533**********12.36
3034**********16.53
3155**********17.07
3217**********18.92
3244**********19.56
3555**********20.56
3737**********22.96
3780**********24.58
4246**********27.31
4408**********29.73
4551**********33.03
4795**********34.35
4890**********35.36
5054**********37.06
5215**********38.38
5299**********39.12
5416**********40.24
Please note that this is per engine, X 2 for twins!
My Sweet Spot is around 3500 RPM's.
1 mile per gallon is about average. I don't think you will ever see 1.7 to 2 MPG.
Hope this helps

interesting dock. i wonder how much worse i get since im running carbs, or if there isnt much diffence.
what kind of speeds were you seeing with 4 people and full fuel?
I had 10 people, a full tank, 3 coolers and a generator and was running 71-72

3 Coolers????????????????
Generator????????????????
Get rid of the above and you have an 80 MPH boat!
We saw 76 on the GPS Saturday testing. I have not mentioned this, but the reason we were testing is I had a distributor bolt loose on the port engine, timing got way out of whack and I burnt a lot of valves. Had to rebuild the top end on that engine and I just got her back together last Thursday night around midnight.
As for EFI vs Carb I have no clue? They should be pretty close to one another I would think.

Re: Outlaw 29 7.4/310HP Fuel Usage
The one big problem I would have running 30 MPH down the lake is the ride. I'm not even on plane good at that speed.
The faster my boat runs, the better the ride. It is just no fun and you are not on top of the waves/wake at those speeds.
I cruise at around 3500 RPM between 50 to 55 MPH, but 65 to 70 is MUCH better!
I would agree with the boat test you posted above. That would be pretty accurate.

I had to verify it with my Wife, but she said we only burned a little over a 1/4 tank for that run. Either way it is what it is. I could care less about mileage. They put fuel gauges in boats & trucks. When they get close to reading "E" I buy more fuel untill they read "F".
I then get my CC statement & say "oh F"!
So to re-clarify the origonal question. I don't nkow how much gas I "use" in per miles to the gallon basis. I know that a typical weekend on Table Rock I burn about 75-100 gallons of gas.
