Default 1998 baja outlaw with 502 mag mpi top speed ??

i just got the boat friday. only goes 60 mph at 5000 rpm.

i feel it is smooth like a honda ! no sudden power or feel at all... maybe the motor isnot going right..way too smooth !

arent they supposed to be faster ? like 73-75 mph ?

I'm assuming a 25' outlaw w/ a single 502 mag (415hp). Dry weight is 4750# so with say 1/2 fuel (50 gal) call it 350#, a couple guys (say 400#) your at 5500#. What are you running a 23p prop? My guess would be very low 60's at best. 73-75mph? no way

should run 65-68 if it is running light at a low elevation, and trimmed out , If its at high elevation and hot that may be all she'll do, where did you test

Everyone throws big numbers around with these boats (67-72) but around here at 600-900 feet elevation and fresh water a bone stocker runs 60-64 depending on fuel load and passengers. Full tk of gas,4 passengers-60-62 mph,I run the 70 mph ones ALL the time and surprizingly they only run low 60's pacing them with my boat on my gps. You probably have a couple mph to be had with propping but don't drive yourself nuts thinking your boat is defective,my 2000 272 with stock 502 mpi only ran 60-65 depending on how much fuel and passengers too,Smitty

today, i realised the trim gage was not working well... i trimmed it right looking at the water line and was able to hit the 70 mph with half tank/3 people ...

i guess everything is fine.. thanks to all.

I had a 1998 25 OL 502mag and the speedo read 70-71 but my garmin gps read 60.1 at her best............low 60's is about right before tinkering with props and such

why does everyone tslk gps speed that is not even close to being accurate gps positioning is only accurate within 3 meters this can drastically effect your GPS speed readings I used gps garmin172 for my speed and found that i was only doing 60 mph but when we use my cop friends Radar we were going 68 I cant stand when people use gps for speed it is tottaly in accurate

It all depends on how good of a GPS that you have. I have had 3 differnt portables and tested them in my truck. They were all withing 1 mph of what the truck read. The cheaper one was the farthers off at 1 mph but the other two were right on.

The only thing that I found was that while accelleratiing or decellerating it took a few seconds for the gps to match the speed.

My .02.

You have to remember with Radar you can get cosign effect. Basically the radar is returning at a funky angle and can make for false readings (reads high). If you are running, the best practice is to point it straight ahead at a steady target (large ship, bouy, etc.)
