You really will not know unless you try it on your boat. Every boat is different and responds differently.

Those in the know say it is usually good for 1 to 2 MPH gain.

I tried spinning them in on my 36 and gained NOTHING top end. It would not carry the bow. I did loose handling at idle around the docks. It was like I had a single engine boat.

I have a lot of buddies with Fountains spining them in and it works GREAT.

Try it, just switch the props and used the shifters backwards. If it works for you then switch the control cables. If not just change the props back.

Good luck

Re: Turn them in or out?

I turned mine in by accident on a trip this summer. I have a 29 OL that I put 4 blades on for Lake Erie (rough water) and when I put my 3 blades back on I didnt pay attention and switched the props. Besides the surprise at the dock trying to get the boat off the trailer...everything was normal only backwards on the shifters. I had the same results as Doc...lost 2 to 3 mph and it would not manuver worth a s*** at the docks. Hope that helps

Re: Turn them in or out?

I turned mine in on my 36. gained 1 mph. I did it at a poker run, and was parked in a super tight spot. It looked like it was my first day driving. I couldnt get the boat out without people pushing me off and helping. It SUCKS around the docks. Not worth the 1mph to me, and that says alot!!

Re: Turn them in or out?

Sounds like the easy check is to switch props and see what it does, I wil let you know the findings.

Do you have to switch drives every 100 hours to evenly disperse wear on the gears?? I have heared this from my dealer (he said 50 hrs?) or was he just drumming up work.

I have never done that, nor heard that.

My gut feeling is that the gears wear in and you may do more harm then good by switching them. I'm not basing that on any hard facts.

Interesting question?

Re: Turn them in or out?

Ive heard that you should switch drives if you have been running out and decide to permanantly run in, because the drives form a wear pattern and it would keep them turning the same as they always had. dont know if there is any truth to that, but it makes sense.

Re: Turn them in or out?

Thats what I was thinking to, If the boat handles ok with them spinning in I will change the drives so the gear pattern is the same as before. Does this make sense
