twin 496's should burn about 30 gallons an hour at 3,500 rpm's. If you really want to get upset about it......it's a 1/2 gallon a minute!!!

For comparision this is what my engines burn each per hour.

Merc 500 EFI's pumped up to 598 HP at 5300 RPM

This was taken this year using the Merc software on my laptop.

Gallons Per Hour Per Engine

3000 RPM = 15.21 GPH
3500 RPM = 20.56 GPH
4000 RPM = 27.31 GPH
4400 RPM = 29.73 GPH
4500 RPM = 31.48 GPH
5000 RPM = 35.76 GPH
5200 RPM = 38.04 GPH
5300 RPM = 38.68 GPH

At wide open throttle with twins that is 77.36 gallons per hour, so I have a three hour range at WOT (235 gallon tank).
