Wow, that looks like a pretty good boat for 37K! However, as Jason said, get it checked over by a professional. It is easy to be blinded by the prospect of something unusual on the market. A well built 540 should last forever, I´ve heard. As dock said, get it compression checked, anyway...and test drive it.
Extended nose drives like the Imco call for hydraulic, anyway.
And the statement about it being steady at 80 mph with cable steering does raise a little doubt, there!
Full hydraulic will cost you another 5K and a set of proper tabs, another 3K.
Yes it should see 80 mph with the Imco shorty and 600 hp.

First thing I would ask is what prop does it turn,I see in the pic it has a 3 blade. Could a WELL SET-UP 25 outlaw run 80 mph (gps)with 600 hp,yes. Does this one actually run 80 mph with 600 hp,probably FEELS like it with cable steering and stock tabs. I have see more then a few 25 oulaws/272's running low to mid 70's with N/A 540's and even blower motors. A test drive with gps, leakdown and compression test should be on the agenda BEFORE purchasing,Smitty

if its a real 600 hp motor you could probably get close as far as 540 with blowers doing mid 70,s my 509 blown 25 outlaw did 96mph gps. at 5700 rpm had full single hyd steering with eddie marine k- plane only problem was it was pretty hairy and hard to do more than 80-85 in less the perfect water.
steering and tabs is a must for that boat over75mph

Tony, you must have had the, often talked about, 100 mph 25OL! 96 is at least close enough when many top out at 70.
Tell me more. How much boost? What horsepower, and what drive did you run?
Like Smitty (and the guy with the 109 mph H2x) you are touching the twilight zone, doing those speeds in less than 27 feet of boat.
Great stuff. Repect to you all!
