Default 454 MPI Rebuild Options?

Hello, new guy here.

My somewhat recently purchased Outlaw blew up over the July 4th weekend. It put a hole a quarter size through the oil pan. I think it happened on idle. I've been looking into my options to move forward and wanted to get your insight. FYI It had about 1500 hours on the 454MPI before it let go.

I had gotten a quote on a replacement Mercruiser engine but wanted to see some other options.

What is your opinion on a Jasper replacement engine?

What kind of costs am I looking at rebuilding the engine through a builder? What is the additional cost to go to 496? I've seen some 454 rebuild kits on eBay and such, but don't know enough about them to sort through the quality/junk.

I found a MPI complete locally as an option but can someone tell me if this a standard rotation engine? Serial # 0L310003,MCM7.4MPI,4542067ML

I'm satisifed with the current performance before it went but if an upgrade can be made that isn't drastic financially, I'd consider it now.

Thank you,
Droors43.

If you are going to get a Jasper motor...bring your own KY JELLY.

I see, you are up by Chi Town. I am in the St Louis area on the Il side. I would pull it, tear it down and see what happened. Most likly you can rebuild cheaper.

Talk to Bill @ Ateco...he can sell you a 496 stroker kit..$1700 ish..you can cam it..do a bit of head work and get an easy 500hp out of it..depending on the exhaust issues...but parts and machining should be well under $5k

There are a few good engine guys in Fox Lake and the surrounding area. Let me know if you still are in need.
