Just no top speed improvement.

Still thinking about trying a 23 Mirage plus.
Typically a 4 Blade shows better cruise and hole shot as you have experienced. It has more drag than a 3 Blade. The 3 Blade will be faster but have heard different reviews on our boats as far as who likes what it is reallt personal perference. I would think you would want to try a 25P M+ rather than a 23P M+.

We all want that great cruise speed as well as top end but unfortunately one prop cannot do both.

As far as the box and shorty....it can produce gains if properly set up. As socalstone had mentioned, "Wildcard" has done alot to dial his 25 OL in....with a 525 EFI best speed was ~81 and with the 600 SCi ~85. I have put links to two interesting reads on his set up.

As you read his posts, he is seeing those speeds due to being able to spin 28P and 30P props.

I had a 1994 272 shooter with a 500efi. The fastest prop I found on that boat was a labbed 27 3blade mirage plus. It would run 70 on gps any day. If I was by myself and light on fuel it would do 72-73 @4950. I tried many different props and that was my favorite. I did raise the x dimension on the drive 1.5" and I also did a nosecone on it. Later I put a procharger on it and went to a 32 lab bravo 1 and the best I got out of that setup was 86 on gps. I agree that you should try a 3 blade. It worked on mine

Sorry for that but still some very pertinent information there to Runninred's question. Wildcard has done alot to dial in his 25 OL, we all try to copy his results. No need to throw money at things that don't work on these things. If you want to read his posts I will gladly copy and past and email them to you.

Baja Man, thanks so much for the input. I would definitely love to try an extension box and shorty. Or maybe just an extension box for now.

I definitely understand how hard it is to dial things in perfectly. I have 2 mustangs I drag race, they both run in the 10's. I know its not as easy as "bolting on and go"

However if it has been done before, I would love to know the exact particulars of what works with my hull and engine. I could not view the threads you posted without registering.

If you know the details of which box and shorty to use, what the drive height needs to be, and what prop would work the best to dial it all in. All that would be more than appreciated.

Thanks, Greg

No tinkering right now. 35 degrees yesterday. But we do have a pretty good long season. We'll be back on the water around the middle of March.

+ 1 on trying the 25 Mirage and not the 23.

When you go from a 4 blade to a 3 blade the rule of thumb is one pitch jump from the 4 blade and not the other way around.

4 blades are harder to turn than 3 blade......
