What was your starting point or stock prop shaft height and were is the point you are talking about the bow lift and speed? Are you saying that higher the prop the slower the speed and bow lift?

Thanks!
They're seems to be a happy spot on Baja's it's right around 4". Bajaman went a little to high with the knotched transom IMO...

My stock prop shaft height was about 6.5". I added the Stellings box set in the middle position with a 2" Imco shortened lower unit.

With the current height vs stock height it did not slow the boat down any it just didn't pick up as much as anticipated.....roughly 1-2 MPH. The big thing it did do was add prop slip. It also does not respond well to trim at the moment. It will shoot a rooster tail but not raise the bow which is needed for speed. I think as I lower the prop shaft height the response to trim will come back as well as the needed bow lift and speed should follow.

New to the 25OL and have been reading up on the extention boxes and short drives and the MPH gains seem to be neglegable. I see most are spending $5k to do these. Why wouldn't you just bolt on a procharger for $5-6k and get the big gain of MPH. Sorry to get off topic, just trying to understand the reason to look at the boxes and such.

I dont have any experience with prochargers but I do know there is more to it than just adding a procharger. The 496 platform is not a good candidate for this. The internals are not meant to handle it. If one were to take the time to have a 454 or 502 setup for a procharger with low boost, than yes, the gains would be great. But if you were to just put a procharger on a 496 and expect it to be turn key, it will get very expensive.

There is no easy inexpensive way of adding MPH. It all has a price whether in actual cost or reliability. Some have the deep pockets to add all at once and others do upgrades in stages. One of the benefits of a box and lower is better rough water handeling. It makes it a safer platform for big power upgrades whether by cubic inches or procharger because of the hydraulic steering that must be added with an extension box.

Another thread with some interesting info and real world experience with a 25 OL extension box and shorty...

Not only does the box increase safer future mods it allows the center of gravity to change based on moving the leverage point back further in the boat also.

As I recall from last years Hawkeye poker run,

There was a pro-charged 25 O/L there, and I'm fairly certain
Steves boat ( the boat in picture 11 in the link)
would have out ran it....and he doesnt have a bolt on hair dryer

496 HO, CMI headers, Stellings Box all the way up, 26P Bravo 1 prop.

His last run of the year was 70.5 GPS 1 person, light fuel.
