hull question please help
I'm interested in moving to a 35 outlaw but was talking to a meckanic and was told he put 2 high hp motors in his boat and split the stringers on the first run out, is this a common problem and should i be looking for another brand. My second choice is a formula fasteck 35 as i need a good cabin for weekend sleep ons.

I believe your mechanic is telling you a tall tale to stroke his own ego. 35 Outlaws don't even have stringers unless they were built by Fountain. the 35 is a liner boat and will only have motor mounts, not stringers.
If he did in fact break a stringer, I want to know who's top fuel motor he used and what drive he put behind it.

IT would have to have been a 36 Outlaw then and they came with everything from 454 MAGS (385 hp a side) to the 900SC which was a 900 hp supercharged engine.
I stand by my earlier observation that your mechanic was stroking his ego.
I had well over 1600 hp in my 29 Outlaw and never had any structural issues.
Here is a 36 with twin 900's:

They didnt make a 35 O/L in early 2000....I'm thinking
06' would have been the first year for them.
I do know that on the early 36 O/L's some of those
had to go back to have additional ribbing added into the
engine compartment area.
Stringer problems are the last thing you're going to
have to worry about in a 35 O/L.

Thanks for the help. Do you think the older models are built better than the newer ones, and how do you feel about the 35 formula fasteck. I found a nice one with 502's with 300 hours and real clean for 70k.

I prefer the stringer boats ( older) over the liner boats( newer), but thats just me
Fountain built 35 O/L's (09'+) are stringer constructed.
What year is the formula ?
Unless those 502's are 500's or 525's, 70k seems high for
10 + year old boat.

Some 36 Outlaws had stinger problems at LOTO due to the rough water. That may be what JaayTeee is referring to.

The baja will have a larger cabin and cockpit then the formula. Especially due to the formula including the swim platform in the length and baja not. Imo the formula is a overpriced production boat no better then a baja. The 35 outlaw is well known as a great boat with excellent test reviews. Also a hull is not going to break before the drives do! Lol
