It's determined by the lower on the Alphas. Sometimes you do find boats with two RH or LH drives and a reversed engine. But the normal way to do counter rotation on an Alpha setup is in the lower units. Also, a counter rotating engine is not just an engine with the rotation reversed. You need to build the engine right to do this. Cam, pistons, rods ect. is different.

Good luck with it.

Also,,,,some of the old Bajas came with same direction Alphas.....so both props are the same

But normal for you should be motors same direction,,,,counter alphas if your redoing the boat

You Alphas came with clockwise rotation in 89. Like everyone else has mentioned, to change the rotation of the drive, you will need to purchase an Alpha with counterclockwise rotation if you want the propellers to spin opposite one another.
Alpha drives cannot be ran in reverse like a Bravo so don't make that mistake!

(GOOGLED IT)

Here are some Mercury part numbers, and a site you can purchase both drives in all the gear ratios.
