Fountains use a "stepped" hull, if you look at the boat from the side you will see two [or more] "steps" these are basically what appear to be large "cut outs" in the hull, this style of hull is MUCH faster than the "straight" hull used by Baja, however, they take some getting used to and require a good knowledge of stepped hulls and how they handle to run safe at high speed, especially turning.
Baja's straight hull and low X dimension make them easier and more predictable to drive, especially for newer boaters.
I certainly dont profess to tell ANYONE what is best for them, OR how to spend there money. But...
I would consider 2 choices:
1] Buy a stock, reliable 496HO Outlaw, it wont run 90mph, but, it WILL be quick enough to be fun, reliable, and you will enjoy it without going broke, or working on it every weekend.
2] If going 90MPH is an absolute MUST, then buy a cat, its the cheapest way to go fast, you can find outboard or sterndrive powered cats that will easily run 90MPH+ with stock, reliable power without spending Huge money, your 70K budget "should" put you into a nice Spectre Cat or similiar
The only drawback to a Cat, especially the smaller ones is the lack of cuddy space.
Just my thoughts

Making ( and more-so, maintaining) a 90 mph
Baja has been the most financially stupid thing
I've done....but it's been a little bit of fun

I just bought a 25 OL this year with a HP500 in it, best i have seen on gps is 71 with more than half a tank of gas and the wife was with also. For me it is fast enough for a 25' boat. Going fast is a blast, and the reason i bought the boat, but after 1 day on the water i quickly realized that there is little opportunity to actually run WOT. My advise would be to look for a boat with a larger cockpit. The lack of room in the 25 OL's cockpit quickly becomes noticeable once you have a few friends in the boat. To me the 25 is a stepping stone, i bought it for a great price, will have it paid off in a year or so, do a few minor cosmetic things and most likely get my money back out of it to put towards a larger boat, something with twins and at least another 5', and it has to break 75 with stock power! If you buy the 25 just enjoy it for what it is, take good care of it, and in a few years if you decide you want more speed buy a different boat.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you that has commented on my post here... i have been enlightened and consumed alot of useful info... It looks like i will go with the majority here about trying to make a 25 ft single engine Baja run 90... It is not practical or feasible to try and get this boat to run that speed.. I think i will just add some headers for a little more performance but mainly to make it sound better and maybe play with a few props to find out which one runs the best and then just leave it alone and enjoy it... May try and find some good aluminum heads to replace the factory ones but that will probably be the extent of it... Maybe spend 5 to 7 G's on it and then enjoy the hell out of it and call it good... As one of the guys on here said earlier... " I dont think the juice is worth the squeeze" lol... Once again thanks to all of you and i look forward to hearing from each and evey one of you again in the future...
