thought I responded to this, but damn tablet keeps closing internet!

anyway, my ford f150 4x4 threw the rearend a couple years after I got my 25ol.. under warranty and the 35's probably didn't help either!!

Wifes truck only has 18k miles and has extended warranty so it will last till I decide whether to purchase a beater tow vehicle/commuter..

I was looking at the 29s after having my 25 and almost bought one 20 hours away and then I actually sat in one and realized it was n't a whole lot different than my 25 for room. Ended up with a 302 and low windscreen. Runs the same as a 29 but the room of a 33. Other than the useless swimplatform, I have no complaints.

Thats the main reason i went with a 302 as well....lots of room for this size boat and given storage restrictions and size of some lakes i spend a lot of time on....didnt want to go 33'.

Spend the money and get the extended swim platform...all the 302's I looked at had it and was a must on my list.

Totally agree...pretty useless and dangerous without one.

agree with the swim platform... I have not seen many with the windscreen and the platform along with mags.. I should be able to check out the 302 tomrrow to get in the cockpit to see the real space.

Will need to find a 29ol around here as it does have a nice platform.. then i can make up my mind... have a nice 29 waiting on me now.

Does the 302 have an anchor locker like the 29 does?

Yes the 302 has an anchor locker right near the front cleats. Decent locker set-up and door seems to be made stronger than one on my 272 as anchor blew out one day....real nice! Anchor fits snuggly in the 302 with strap to keep from moving too much and foam down lower in locker.

Think you willl be happy with cockpit space of 302.

I guess I need to see in person too. Yellow 29 does looks a lil bigger than 25??

I had a 252 for 5 years. LOVED the boat. use it ALOT, and I mean every weekend and some weekdays. 100 hours a year, and all i do is run 10 miles up river 90% of the time and anchor out/camp.

Dreamed since i was a kid about a 38 special.

as an adult, I wanted to realistically move up to a 342 (liked the 302s, but options i want where not there..... 38 was bubbly, and bigger to trailer, and the 342 had all the option i wanted anyway)

Made the jump in april 2012. and MAN was it worth it. 342 and 33OL have same basics.

HUGE cockpit, cabin is nice, usable vacu flush..... LOVE the boat.

as far as trailering.... had a 1500 4X4 GMC, towed the 252 fine, still could push it around a little in a E stop..... I knew i wanted a bigger boat, 33-38.. so i upgraded trucks, to a 2500HD Desiel GMC (same year actually) and WOW what a difference. truck would push the boat around at that point, stopping was great, like the boat was barley there. (emagine 1500 with a jet shi or car trailer unloaded.)

then i sold 252, and bought the 342..... towing a 33+ is a different game for sure....the boat WILL push my 2500HD. SO while i am sure your truck/SUV will move it, and work. its going to work like ****. be dangerous to other, and to be honest SKETCHY AS **** driving it around. also going to wear out the drive train, and shocks VERY fast....

My 342 is heavy though Genny, AC, and Vacuflush

thanks for input mittens! I think I am backing down from 33 for now.. at least until I finalize sale of boat and look/decide on commuter... AND where I find the Deal.. Ideally, I would like the 302, but, it depends where I can find the deal..

I am going to see a 96' poker run 302 (has hp 500's but no head and teal/pink w/ mcleod bolsters) Really just want to see the cockpit space.

How would a 302 run with hp500 carbs? couldn't find any threads about it? speeds/issues?

Also, i have read that they need top end refresh.. but what is that? just heads rebuilt?
