Price range is $10K to $13K max, prefer a Baja and need to run at least mid 50 top speed. Sold my old Baja 2 years ago due to health reasons, cured now. My group I hang around with and tend to run with have a Chapparel 26 with a 496, A Formual 24SS with 454Mag, 240 Baja Sport 454 Mag, 22 Pachanga 350 mag so they all run low 50's to 60 range when in a hurry. Cruise 35 to 40 range on average when headed somewhere.

I've had both. The 236 has a lot of room for the size. They did a great job! To me, it was like baja tried going towards a little luxury/roomy. The built in cooler was the cats a$$ if it didn't eat ice that close to the cooler. Great boat but at the same time, it all depends on what your after. Pm me if you would like more info...I'm not on here as much with it being off season.

So you could get into 250's and 260's around that price range.

Be careful not to confuse "hull side" depth with bottom depth. (deadrise) The greater the deadrise the better the ride in rough water, but as with anything else there are some trade-offs to consider. A deep deadrise is not as stable from side to side motion at rest, leans over harder in turns, and has more underwater drag for less speed in general. A flatter deadrise is more stable at rest, turns flatter (almost a controlled slide), and is often a little faster. (just warn your back when you see rougher water)

Just to complicate this a little more you could take a nice (deep) deadrise angle and add large lifting strakes, wide reversed chines, or a wide flat keel. This makes the (effective) deadrise less so the ride quality is lessened, more stability/less lean (wide chines), more speed from larger strakes/or keel pad, but the deadrise angle is still the biggest factor most of the time.

The same trade-offs go for hull side depth also. The taller the sides the wife and kids feel safer and your less likely to get wet. The trade off is on a windy day in the marina and the tall hull sides act like a sail when docking. (especially a single engine model)

I know it's a long way from you, but it's not far from your price range. Make an offer you never know

Thanks for the great info XT. Nightlife that 272 is out of my price range and it doesn't look like it has a trailer which I need to keep it on. At 13K, I'm all tapped, including transportation if I had to have it hauled in from way off. There is a 2000 23 Wellcraft Excalibur that kinda looks like a Baja 236 for sale on Yachtworld not too far away, looks super clean for $14,900, thinking about looking at that, he might drop to 13K, but only thing I don't like is no thru hull exhaust and it's a Volvo but a good buddy told me Volvo's are tougher than Bravo's.

We had a 1995 and it was a great boat for use and our kids like the cuddy but we moved up to the 275 and the ride is smother on our lake. Ours didn't come with the exhaust but after a year on the lake and people asking where the exhaust was I had it installed.
