Default 35OL Owners - I need your outdrive advice

See the thread below:

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/d...35-outlaw.html

Instead of rebuilding this time, I plan on upgrading. If you have a 35OL similarly equipped, let me know what you're running and how you like your setup.
Mine - 2006 35OL, I purchased new and plan to keep it. 496 HOs with CMI headers. Currently have Bravo 1 X w/ 1.65:1 ratio and 32P standard props and 34P labbed props. About 76mph on the 32s but I go beyond the rev limiter. About 78mph on the 34s at 5000.

Looking at full IMCO SC drives or Bravo XR w/ Sportsmaster lowers. Planning on 1.50:1 ratios this time. Let me know your opinions.

Thanks,
Ed

Not doubting your word, but how are you getting 78 out of HO's?

I didn't want to flame a Baja thread, but I was thinking the same thing. The 36 is 68 mph every day boat with that same power.

Looks like upgrades include CMI headers, increased Rev Limiter, Maybe a ECM upgrade?

35 Outlaws run good though

Maybe the gear ratio plays some magic. I know some other builders have played with gear ratios to increase speed. Also hear how most early BMAX users lost speed having to run 1.35 ratio before they 1.50 ratio was available.

But yes, it does seem a little fast but not ridiculous

Yes, that's on GPS.

BTW, I wasn't posting to brag what the boat does. I'm looking for outdrive advice and wanted everyone to know what it currently does and what it (or I) currently breaks.

Anyway, yes, just over 76mph on the 32s, but I'm constantly banging the rev limiter. Right at 78mph at just over 5000 with the labbed 34s. But, getting on plane is tough. I also broke a fin off of one of the 34s last summer. Didn't hit anything...the other fins are fine. This one just broke off.....nice clean break too!

I'm pretty sure that the 1.65:1 ratio plus the tall pitch props is the big helper with the top end. The CMIs probably add just enough power to make the drive/prop combo work.

No ECM tune that I know of, unless one was required for the CMIs. I believe the CMIs are pure bolt-on with no tune required.

Ski Dock told me they recorded 79.7mph on GPS when they were setting the boat up and testing different props. I never saw that fast.

And, I'm pretty sure that a more stock(ish) 35OL will run ~75mph with HOs, 1.50:1 gears and 30P props.

I also thought I remember someone on here a couple years ago claiming 82mph with a similar setup to mine, except he also had extension boxes.

BTW, if anyone out there with a 35OL has played with different drives, please chime in.

Fin? You mean blade?

If you go with 1.5 you have more "used" props available. But you might get more life out of 1.65's

For those doubting, the 35 was actually as fast or faster than the 33 in most cases with equal power.

Not to be off topic but Ed's boat is that fast. I was still in the biz back then and was with Ski Dock when they set it up and I also worked their boat show that year when it was there. Even Blane was shocked. Great ride for sure.
