29OL or boss302
Hey guys have a couple questions if someone could please help me out. I've been looking at 29OL's and a boss 302 besides one having a moulded swim platform and the other being a bolt on what is the difference in the hulls they pretty much look the same. Also there is a 29ol with a single blue motor I am interested in, what's your thoughts on that big of a boat with a single motor as far as speeds? Single would be nice because of less maintenance but I don't want a slug. Would it be worth supercharging in the future. Any info would be appreciated .....thanks mike

I got a single 29 OL with a 385 hp single. It is not a fast boat by any stretch. 52 - 55 max. Rides good on the rough LOTO water but my opinion is, if you want to go faster, buy something else. I think the twin 385 hp was a mid 70's boat.
You could take a boat like mine and supercharge it sure, but talk working an outdrive. Seems a guy did a procharger on one a few years back and it was less than successful and extremely expensive. Think it blew the engine up after it had sucked every last penny and every bit of pleasure out of him.

+1 on all the above. I've got a buddy with a 29 single, prolly the same guy your talking about Tbird. He blew everything in the boat up trying to run a big HP procharged 502. Tore the drive to hell and finally smoked the motor. He has it together now at around 525 NA HP it runs 62 ish. Awesome boat tho, way different balance with the single than with the twin BB.
I hear the 302 feels bigger.

Cockpit and cabin in a 302 is very large for a 30' boat. Cockpit is probably more comparable to a 33 OL...maybe not that large but close. If you are looking for space...go with the 302 over 29OL. I would also suggest making sure the 302 has the extended swim platform as the factory molded swim platform is down right dangerous. Not sure on the 29
OL, but 302's like to porpoise and need a lot of tab\k-plane in the 40-45MPH range to keep it from bouncing. My 302 has twin HP500 EFI's and will run solid 80MPH loaded with fuel and people.....light load low 80's.
Overall I am very happy with my selection of a 302 over a 29 or 30OL. Just tough to find them wiht the power and options you want in them. Best of luck

I have not had an opportunity to drive/ride in a Boss 302. I have built a OL-29 race boat, and the hull, performance, and experience working with OL was amazing.
You would have a bullet proof package with a Merc 525 and Bravo Drive. Speeds will approach triple digits
Good Luck

I believe the hulls are the same. I remember someone telling me that they used the same CAD drawing when they designed and placed the bunks for the trailers. If you get a 302 with the low windscreen it gives you a similar look of an outlaw at first glance. I had a 302 and came across a guy with the same graphic package as me on his 29OL. It took me a second to realize it wasn't a 302. I doubt there is any performance difference between the two. One has room and the other has a swimplatform.
