Default Hello, anyone from Columbus

hello, im from columbus, boat mostly on Alum Creek with a 1990 Baja 190DSR, with a 4.3 which NEEDS to be swapped with a new engine or a full rebuild, (1200+hrs!). anyone have any suggestions on an engine? i would like to keep it the first gen alpha on unless i can find a cheap bravo 1.
thanks,
Tommy

im pretty sure the alpha can take 300 without a nose cone, so i will try to get a new 4.3 with 10.1 pistons, heads, intake mani, carb, corsa thru-hull, roller cam.
yes i run that boat to death and what even more amazing is, i change oil ever 100hrs, i know most people out there who push a boat hard change at 20-30!

we drove past the baja facotry on the way to lake erie a few weeks ago, the week before the cleveland apba race, never did get to go take a tour. have to call on that.

Call Fowler engines (614) 258-2924. He builds HUGE Hp but I did see some stock engines. Their prices per hour are reasonable and they are super effecient. If you see their shop you won't want to go anywhere else. Make sure he knows you are using your stock exhaust. Your cam profile will be very limited by it.

If not you can probaly find a used 350CID mec (260HP) if you look around.

Keep the alpha, the bravo is a huge undertaking to swap.

Try the following:

plus a full brave drive with external hyd steering goes for 10k+

building it is easy, i just dont know to get a lightly used 350 or a new 4.3 and build it up, heads, intake mani, pistons, cam, corsa thru hull exhaust, carb....

as for pusing the boat before, i have buried the faria speedo at 55 at 5200 rpm with a 19" pitch, does something seem off???

I like the 350CID idea engine myself. If I'm not mistaken this was an optional item on your boat so it should fit.

The question is what about motor mounts and does the flywheel housing fit (mounts to your transom). I'm pretty sure the flywheel housing are the same for the 4.3 and 5.7 liter (believe it or not).

You have a good chance finding a marine 350. I wouldn't buy a automotive due to set up for the torque curve among other things.

Good post for the technical QA board. Measure twice buy once.

Here's a link if you want to dig around in microfish, go to the bottom right link under mercrusier I/O

Hello Tommy,
Welcome to the board. I am from Columbus myself and I do most of my boating at Alum Creek too. I have the 96 272 25th Anniversary Baja. Its called Luv-N-It!

Hey, you are not going to believe this, I have a friend that just pulled a 4.3 V6 with a volvo outdrive out of a boat, which has 50 or 150 hours. Not sure which, but I know its less than 150 hours.

Let me know if you are interested. I can post his # for you and you can call him. He wants $1,300 for the complete set-up. I know some guy is coming from Texas to look at it this weekend.
