value of 2000 272 w fresh 502 vs 496 ho
Bought a 33 scarab avs with hp 500s to replace my 272, putting the 272 together to sell. I have all the parts to assemble my original 502 short block, just got a set of NOS in the box rectangle port heads because I sold mine years ago. I have several options for assembling my boat for sale (had big power in it that Im not giving away). I have inconel exhaust valves, good springs, hp 500 efi cam, morel lifters, modified 502 mpi intake and bored throttle body. I can assemble a 500+/- hp 502, install it in boat with stock injectors, tune it perfect and sell the boat that way, it would probably run 70-72 ish and I would set it up to be turn key relaible. I can also skip all that and buy a turn key newer complete 496 ho locally for about what I could sell the 502 for later on, saving time on trying to get this thing sold still this season. The boats sitting on a brand new 4800$ alumiunum trailer, has full camper enclosure thats like new, gps speedo, full to helm full hyd steering thats staying on it, fresh pins and bushings in the gimbal, interior is a 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10, no stress cracks or gouges, a few extra gauges that are staying, stainless trim tabs that about 25" long, hull has about 375 or 400 hours on it , what do guys think as far as which way to go to sell this thing? Selling without power is not really a option since its still sorta a entry level boat no one would give me anything for it, opinions?

272s need stock 496 HO or 502 Mag to sell and fetch decent $. When we had our 272 up for sale can't tell you how many people called and were looking for the bigger stock engines as opposed to base 7.4 power.

Shoot around here even having the 502 in a 272 isnt setting the world on fire. But if you can fit the exhaust cam, ect and make it run a unstressed 70 with pics of internal engine pieces to show the unknowledgible prospective buyers you would have a edge. I would like to get first on list for some leftover 502 parts also

I lurk on this site here and there but I follow a lot of your posts based on the engine work and knowledge on our 272/25OL hulls. I think to make it sell you need stock merc power probably 502 over 454. I have a mildly worked 454 I'm betting it will be hard to sell over an unmolested mag motor. People like me the entry level go fast boater wants a turn key boat especially if they are on a loan. Too many hack builds no one trusts anymore. Mine was built right with good parts by a good builder but they don't care. Turn key and wide open is what they want then ask how to get faster even though we did the hard part money and dialing it in. Sad to see you leave the 272 after all you have done. Can't wait to see the horsepower and speed you get out the new ride.
