JT, I missed your comment, yes my boat has stock trim, and with a post like #11 was I or anyone else to believe we were not talking about anything but stock, didn't come up later that they had junk in the trunk, I guess if I would of hung 30K worth of stuff off the back, blue printed the bottom and extended my swim platform 4 foot Id be in the high 90's

I have a 40OL with triple 500 EFI's, Stellings Boxes, labbed Hydromotive QV4's, Blue printed bottom and hitting the limiter at 5250 rpm, outside props turning inwards, drives trimmed up significantly, k planes pushing the bow down slightly - 91gps, less than 1/8 tank of fuel, good choppy water.

Mid 80's to me is between 83 to 87 ....if you're able to run on average at or above 83, I'd say that would constitute running mid 80's.
As we all know, conditions play a factor....I can have a 4 MPH swing between the best and worst conditions.
Jersey is right on the set up....boxes and 380's set the boat and give it the right angle of attack
I can knock 2 to 3 MPH off just by running with the tabs up and running outside rotation.
I even went with iron heads when I turned mine up, just so I didn't screw up the center of gravity
And he's right about spot light......the ride I took in that was a total let down...85 down river,
79 going up.
I still stick to my original statement with saying a 30 will do it on average.
A 33 ( or a 29, 302, 35) might be able to do it, but it will have to be set up and in ideal conditions all the time if it's going to " on average", run mid 80's with the power said above

The quotes in question were concerning a 33 OL not a 302. Always apples and oranges. Post up a pic of a 33 without $30k worth of hardware hanging off the back and 1000 hp running mid 80's if you want to correct someone.

Here's some new prices
IMCO box new -----------------1800 x 2 = 3600
IMCO shaft new.----------------- 750 X2 =1500
IMCO steering mounts --------450 x 2 = 900
A 6000 dollar investment, no where near ShortBus's "30K in hardware".
The twin engine Baja 302 we discussed had used IMCO boxes, stock Bravo uppers with -2 IMCO lowers also bought used.
I bought my IMCO box and shaft used for 1500 and bought the steering arm new for 450, $1950 total

Who cares, my 30K number was if I was to do mine, I don't care what you spent,............... to the OP if you want to be the fastest Baja out there you now know who to call.

You're welcome. It's always interesting, when the experts check in, to watch for all "the facts" to be posted using apples to oranges examples....again.
The first 8 replies are all great. 2-3 highly modified boats (or examples) and highly experienced owners, that don't run over 85, as well as more reasonably equipped examples of 80 MPH Baja's.
As the discussion moved to the 33 you post up the 302 video for the purpose of punking 33 outlawsst.....which then immediately gets questioned "5500 RPM's on what model Baja?". But you made your point.
Here I go again, but the fact is, to the OP's question, it takes a chit ton more (set up and hardware) to make a 85mph 33 outlaw than just his 1000 hp "without getting crazy". Two guys with the boats +one 342 who've installed said power quoted their numbers (MPH and $$$). Using a hawk eye set up boat doesn't represent what he's going to find for a hull to install his power in. But I'm sure he knows that.
It's well established the 30 will run 79.9 with 496ho's what ever horsepower they may be. Most folks would call it 850 hp. So the 500's boxes and shorties are good for 4-5 MPH over stock, on a 302. Sounds like the ~30' boats are the consensus to run 80's with 1100 hp.

Disclaimer* may need to be read really slowly.
Edit: to me, 85+ is "mid 80's" high 80's start at 87. You know, just for arguments sake.
