I just did mine with Kiwi. (Shoe polish company). It's for tents and boat canvas. I saw it by chance and tried it..it went on real good and looks and feels like it did when it was new

I have been using star brite waterproofing. I reapply once a year. Very happy with how it works. http://www.westmarine.com/buy/star-b...04_129_002_518

303 Fabric Guard.
I have demonstrated it to friends by lightly misting a Kleenex a few times and letting it dry. Then I make a cup out of the kleenex and it holds water.
It'll pretty much prevent fade, too.
