Question 1995 29 BAJA

I just sold my 23 ' boat and have an eye on a 1995 29 ' BAJA w/7.4's. Are there any problems that are common with this model I should be aware of prior to checking this boat out? I have read about the stringer problems with some of the older (Outlaws) and wonder if anyone has seen this on the ES model?I realize that the 7.4 engines will not set any records on the water, I figure they should be good for about 65 mph. I am just looking for a larger boat that will handle the upper Chesapeake bay water. Seller claims 130 total hours on this boat ! Asking price is $36900. No trailer... Any Information that you Baja guys have on this model would be very helpful... Thanks !!! Bob

Welcome to the board and the Baja forum

There was a discussion a little while ago about '29 stringers.
Here's a link to the thread. The stringer discussion is down towards the end.

With 7.4s, 65 (on GPS anyway) may be a little optimistic, but I'm sure someone with a similar setup will chime in and give you some feedback.

737,
Are you talking about purchasing an Outlaw or the 290 ES Sport?

By the way, welcome to the board. You'll "Luv It"

I know what you mean a 29 would be nicer on the Chesapeake. I have a 24 and you can get banged around a little.
Good luck, 130 hrs for a 95 sounds good.
This time of year you should be able to get that price down. The guy won't have to store the boat and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

737,

Powerboat tested a 290 with 7.4s in the early 90s. Got 72 mph on radar. One thing to remember is that the 290 has 21 deg or deadrise. I've had several dealers tell me that they rode pretty bad in rough water. I'd definatly recomend a test drive. Good luck.

Post Thanks for the info!!!

I do not know the colors of the boat.Should be looking at it on friday. The photo is in black and white in the add.For all I know this thing could be a peice of $hi&!!!My 23 ' boat was not very good in the bay it too had a 21 degree hull.I had a 7.4 with a 174 B&M power charger on it, but the water was to rough to run any boost.I ran in the mid 70's on better water. Default Prochargers are the way to go!!!

I would go with the prochargers .The 7.4 is limited to 4.5 or 5 psi .Your 454 mags are better suited for supercharging... Bob
