Default Engine Vents disaster

I got a 232 Boss running on lake Champlain. %$?#$ damn rough on some days. 2-3-4 feet shops. Last week, was running in 2-3 feet shops. Later, I discovered that the white calking that olds the left engine vent in place craked all the way. That calking broked all along the engine vent. Been able to replace the vent in place (quater of an inche distortion). So, I told my self that I needed some calking job on that side....

Wrong! Got back in some 1-2 feet shop. That damn calking made some small stress cracks on the gel-coat when it first craked. Guess what happened? I now got a 1 inch ship of gel-coat that stripped off.

Does that issue ever happened to 232-252-272 owners? Do you think it should be covered by the hull warranty? I bought the boat new last summer.

I am so disapointed. Always tought that Bajas where solid rock in the rough... I will now be carefull!!!

I never had that specific issue with my 232. I did have some gelcoat that chipped off (from what, I don't know) the first year I had it. It was covered under warranty with no questions asked. So I would assume yours would be as well.

I've had the gelcoat crack around the vents on a 97 232, a 98 232, and a little bit of cracking in the caulking of a 99 h2x....all on the passenger side vent....

Thnaks guys.

Missouri : My problem is also on the passenger side. Looks like there is finaly an issue with that problem. You think it will be covered by the 5 years hull warranty?

Are you a Baja dealer?

same issue on my 96 232,, talked to baja and they said that those vents should have been put on using a flexible caulk, mine were affixed w/ someting along the lines of marine-tex. fixed it several times and kept happening. I finally used some 3M 5200 and it stayed. Then I got the stress cracks as you explain. I'm not happy, but it does not appear they are hurting anything.
