Default Big power in 232

Anybody running big (>500hp) in a 232? Just wondering how the hull responds to power. I spoke with one guy that had an hp500 in a 96, and he had to have the hull blueprinted to eliminate some handling problems. Just wondering if anybody else has run into this?

Thanks.!

What power are you running now?? I just bought a 2000 with a 454 Mag and was curious what speed to expect. I figured 67-68??? I have not taken delivery just yet, I have been waiting on the all of the paper work to be collected and sent to me, taking forever!!!!!!!!

I had a 98 232 with a 454Mag. Best I ever saw was 69 on the GPS. I've heard the the 232 could get kind of squirlly at 75 +.

I would thing you're right about the squirrely part. I knew a guy who had a 502 with 525 hp and he ran around 73-74 on gps. It was pretty stable at those speeds but he did have a 4 blade prop to make it a little more stable.

JTB you are right on, 68 with a mag... Hopefully you'll have it in the water soon.!

If it's still stable at 73-74, that sounds pretty good. I'm getting ready (hopefully) to apply some real power to mine, and i'm trying to make sure i've got everything covered first. Got dual ram hydraulic steering, and gonna put the Martini tabs that he's selling on it. Hopefully that's all i'll have to do, really don't want to have to have the bottom reworked. I figured on a 4-blade for sure...

I'm thinking in the 500hp range, just only know 1 person that's done it.

Thanks guys.! Just for kicks, what kinda speeds is anyone getting out of one with a 496 HO? I'm still in the air about the motor, and if a HO will push it to 73-4, that would make me happy.

Madmax....I have a 97' 232 boss with a mystery built 502, I've seen 70 gps with a 24p 4 blade @5000rpms, I guess I'm making only around 425hp, I do know that it is mildy built. To get that speed I need to trim it way up, it gets pretty loose...chine walking (i think).

From what Ive heard the four blade has more stern lift then a 3 blade. I just purchased a 25p accelerator design mirage plus from Darrin at houston props, Ill let you know what it does as soon as it warms up around here. Im hoping for around 73-74 mph, which is what the old ower said he saw with a labbed 3 blade. If you are going to be pushing 500+ then im sure you will see a few more easily.

Guy by me has one w/ an HP 500, w/ a tweaked prop he see's 73-74 and it is quite Squirrly, needs tabs, hydraulic steering, and will still chine walk.. Was going to go w/ 450-500 hp on my 232 but didn't want to risk it.
