29 OUTLAW Bare A$$

I decided to pull the swim platform off to make transom cleaning easier and not for looks. Now that I’ve had it off for a while, I actually like the “bare look” vs. the “platform look” better. My only regret is that it took me 3 years to realize life is too short to spend it cleaning exhaust soot off of aluminum tubes. Transom clean-up went from almost an hour to about 15 minutes (with little or no crouching/bending). For those who are buying boats with tubular platforms - you had better need them really bad because they suck.

My boat now sits about 1.5” higher in the water without the platform. I placed the platform on the scale and it came it at almost 100lbs. My platform has strategically placed drain holes yet it’s still full of water. I can hear the water sloshing around when I move it. I have no idea how the water can get in without getting out. Anyway, that’s part of the reason that thing comes in at 100lbs.

Other notables in the picture:

Short-cut exhaust tips are from Eddie Marine.
The trailer is sporting stainless steel disc brakes.
The trailer is sporting 5 Star modular wheels.
The wheels are sporting solid billet lugs nuts. I went with billet lug nuts vs. those cheap chrome ones that rust. Warning – billet lug nuts cost about $3.00 each!!!!

I'm sure clean up is much easier, no question.

Personally I like the swim platform. It makes getting in and out of the water easier and safer, and when you back into a slip it allows boarder easier.

The main thing with me is safety, and when you have someone at the back of the boat while docking it gives them a secure place to put their feet.

I have a few ideas that I am currently running by a friend that has a major CNC machine shop making billet motorcycle wheels. I have shown him the really nice platform on the Cigs and we are looking at a unique design for our boat that is hinged to make cleaning easier. I hope we can make this happen at a reasonable price, it so I will let everyone know.

Nope - I have to keep it so that it's available when I sell the boat.

It actually looks better than I thought it would. But I understand you are only doing it for the ease of cleaning. I still have to vote for the platform on vs. off.

This is still one of the best looking 29's I have seen so far.

Have you gotten a top speed since you got the props back from Darin?

Yep - previous GPS best was 79.3mph. Saturday I had a quick run of 79.6mph on GPS. The problem is that I don't know if the speed increase is the result of the props or the result of not having the platform on.

You need to keep it stored in a safe place, I'm going to need when I buy your boat.

I like the ideal of easy cleaning and the look, however the safety issues for swimmers and loading & unloading come first for me.

The platform is sitting in my bedroom shrink wrapped.

I understand folks concerns about boarding safety, swimmers, etc. Those things are never a concern for me. I never have swimmers, never have boarders, never even have passengers. In fact, I don't even know why I own a boat!!! My sister told me I should put a sign on it that says "For Display Purposes Only"

If you haven't named her yet I think you've got a winner.

You should add a "Display Only Please Do Not touch" sign to it.
