Baja tour

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Pam Copper for the tour around Baja's plant. Some extremely cool stuff coming down the pike.

Got to see the first 40' outlaw with 6 bolsters (yes 6!) for a poker run boat that's going to Japan. Had triple 496HO's in it. Had a custom paint job that was just plain awesome. They were perfecting this one, and then they are going to build one for themselves for a 05 Baja factory poker run boat. Will be a 6 bolster settup, only the guys working on the Japan one said it would have triple 600merc's. Should be quite a ride.!

Unbelievable how many boats are being built at once. Pam said they crank out about 10 a day. It's crazy to see how EVERYTHING is still done by hand. The only computerized machine I saw was one that cut the vinyl out for the seats. Everything else I could see was hand done. I'm pretty convinced Baja builds a very nice boat. The 30 outlaw was beautiful with the integrated fiberglass liner.

Just thought i'd let you guys know. If you every get near there, stop in and check it out. Only bad part about the tour is that they don't have a gift shop. My wife was all ready to spend money on trinkets.....

Re: Baja tour

Yes they do an excellent job, and the plant is really something to see.

I have been to three manufacturers now and Baja is my far the most impressive.

We had the opportunity to go up there in 2002 and see the 36 being built and got some great pictures.

I would recommend that all of you take a trip up there. You will not be dissapointed!

Re: Baja tour

That is one thing that is on my To Do List. I know Greg-TeamBaja would take care of me there and give a great tour.

Re: Baja tour

I really do not understand why so many of the manufacturers do not allow pictures.

When we were up there in 02 we were able to take all the pictures we wanted to.

I was so impressed with the plant, and proud to have the pictures of our boat being built.

It is simply awesome to see 20 hulls in molds at once from 20 foot to 40 foot, the upholstery shop was unbelievable, then the assembly will blow you away. I bet there were 30 to 40 boats in assembly, then another 30 in final detail where they receive a good cleaning and all the decals.

A very impressive operation.

We use to have a link for the pictures of the plant on Team Baja Marine, but Baja got made and asked that it be taken down.

Here are a few shots, maybe I won't get sued!

Re: Baja tour

I was told they are going to build a 40 for the poker run season, with 6 bolsters, but they didn't mention 1075's, the one guy said he thought it was going to get 600's. They were building a twin to it going to Japan with trip 496's... it was AWESOME.

triple 1075's would be a lil rediculous.... would have to be twin's.... I thought trip 600's was insane.....

Re: Baja tour

I have it directly from top Baja people that the new 40 Outlaw is for real.

It was suppose to be out last year, but there were some holdups.

This is what I have been told.

40 Outlaw
Carbon Fiber Layup
Twin Staggered 1075's with #6 Drives

Dry Weight 8500 Lbs

Estimated Top Speed 115 MPH

I have seen some pictures of the paint while in the paint shop. I do not have any copies of the pictures, they were not very good because the boat was not complete, but it should be out of the shop by now. Expect to see it on the Poker Run Tour this year.

Should be really AWESOME!

Don't expect to buy one like it, from what I hear the numbers just on the Carbon Fiber and the engines and drives, before you factor labor and all the other components are like triple what my 36 costs!

Cannot wait to see it.

Re: Baja tour

The 1075's w/ # 6 drive MSRP for about 120K ea and cost about 90K ea. That is what I was told at the cleveland boat show last year by the merc people.

The 40 ol poker run boat is for real they have had some hold ups but I have talked to some of the guys who work there and it is for real.

Re: Baja tour

This should be it.
I saw a drawing of the paint scheme a few months ago and it is exactly the same.
Props to the Team Baja Marine website for having these.
