Notched 30 ol........

I just heard from a reliable little birdie that Baja has a project underway to notch the transom of a 30ol to see how it performs. I can't wait to see it but I am curious if Baja is going to start cutting boats apart and adding notches and Steps?

Notches wouldn't be anything new for Baja. My 25OL had a notched transom.

Yeah I know that but why would they add it now after they have been developing this boat for at least 4-5 years. I would love them to build a couple of stepped boats ( I know they built 2 42's with steps) to quiet the critics about baja's being slow. You can put a 29 fountain inside a 29 ol.

Good question...I guess they had to build a few without notches to see what, if any, difference it makes.

The 42's with steps were built as such so that they could pace the APBA races back in 2000-2002. Racers were pissed that the pace boat was too slow.

We don't need no stinkin' steps...let the critics critique.

They are actually going to notch the boat and then keep the notched piece, and re-glass it so that it can be put back in place the same day with some pre-tapped holes so they can check the performance the same day with the same conditions ect. I thought that was pretty ingenious. I am still waiting on the 35 ol.

That's pretty cool. I wonder what the results will be. Keep us informed if you find out.

The notch helps when you run a high X. It keeps more water on the prop. I have the 97 Baja poker run 32. It has the full notched transom. It also had the hull blueprinted by Baja. Email me if you want to see some pics. hmwilks@mchsi.com

There are no notched 30's being developed or tested. Also, they only built one 42 with steps. The only boat they ever stepped.
