Default What size engines ?

New to this and have a 40' banana hull ....1979 model.
It needs 2 engines, but funds are limited, high speed not req'd
Anyone know the minimum hp to get it to plane ?
Any suggestions to fit her out economically? thanx.

Default Nice Reply - thanx

So from the tone of your reply you obviously think the boat is stolen ? Is this a common occurance with older boats ?
I'm sorry to say your reply is kind of intimidating.

The person who sold it to me is of good character and advertised it in full public view on the internet, so I'm confident it was rightfully his.

If you or anyone you know feels this is their boat please feel free to state your case here.

Charlie, since you were the builder of this, I'm surprised you don't choose to be a little more helpful ?

Okay...let's start with the fact that........ Banana never made a 40 foot boat in 1979.....does this help clear up my questions about it.

Since that was your very first post here on OSO and you start with that kind of information, it didn't exactly start you off on the best footing.

Why don't you post some photos of the boat and maybe we can help you figure out who made the boat.....that is why I asked for a VIN number, that will determine quickly who the builder was and the year it was made.

I was very curious about this thread as I never heard of a Banana Boat this big.

I checked the Banana Boat site for some info and history about the Banana boats to see if I had missed something. http://www.bananaboatco.com/
Well, you already have an answer.

Are you 100% sure about the length?
Cant be a cig can it?

I believe Glastron have made some boats called Banana something.
Dont know when they were built and what sizes?

Otherwise im out of guesses.

The VIN is important so you can verify what you have bought/own.
Im sure you will get help if you post some more info.

Pics of your boat would also be interesting to see.

Hope it gets sorted out quickly.

underdog, why are you so quick to think the boat was stolen?
That's not the underlying tone i picked up from Charlie's post.

Boat has nice lines, but the HIN# will surely ID this hull.
I hope you can find it.(if its not on the upper rt corner of the transom)

BTW, regardless what it is, a pair of 425hp, 496s will work fine.

You may have a Coyote....and it would be a 38 not a 40.....what does the deck look like? And what is the VIN number on the top right of the transom.

Second thought....with the extra strake under there, you have a boat that was taken out of the MSV or Cobra mold. Like La Tortuga or Beep Beep. The original mold was 44 feet, but everyone blocked it to the length they wanted....if it measures 40, that's your answer.

That hull design needs a lot of power to push it into the 80's and 90's, but if you just want to cruise around, moderate power would work.

Nice looking boat......you did good!!
