1969 Cary "The Cigarette", 2008 24 Banana Boat
What's this from the past??

Back in the early 80's Banana Boat signed an exclusive agreement with the APBA Offshore Commission, to produce a One Design 24 foot race boat.

We would run on the same weekend as the offshore races, but on courses that were about 75 miles long. Crew would be driver and throttleman or navigator.

Boats would be set up for simplicity....all stock components.
It was to be powered with a single sterndrive and all the boats would weigh within a few pounds of each other.

WHAT HAPPENED?? Jimmy Carter, the oil crisis, and 22% interest rates.

What do you think....are these lines still good looking today?

reminds me of a Donzi Corsican . .
at 24' this would be cool, need to make the rear cowl removable for use with more than two people . .

Just got a note from Marilyn De Martini who does PR for the European P1 group. They just took over the 4 Stroke class of race boats that were powered by Honda for the last 10 years or so and now they are going to have Merc outboards on the back of them.....same idea, we were just too early.
