Re: How many people on this site have been in a boating accident?

Year 1971

Age 13

Me and two other school buddies were water skiing in the cove in front of the house like we did almost everyday.

Just three of us and we decided to ski double and just have a driver in the boat.

It was a Duracraft Aluminum boat with a 35 HP Outboard.

I was one in the water when we noticed the driver paying more attention to us then where he was going.

He ran right into a dock, the boat went straight up in the air and fell over backwards upside down.

By the time we reached the boat he surfaced unhurt.

There was a BIG dent in the boat, but we got it turned right side up, beat the dent out the best we could and changed the oil in the engine and were skiing in two days.

We were VERY lucky. That is why you MUST have a spotter.

Re: How many people on this site have been in a boating accident?

nothing on power boats, but sailing, we were just off the start in a hobie 33, 3 foot seas and a good 20~25 knot breeze when we stopped moving suddenly, as the mast came down on us.. also was on an s2-79 off the start of another race, a ranger 33 was over early, and flipped her over hard to return to the line and do her 360's, we saw her turn and hollered "no rights" she kept coming and dead broadsided us. also been in a few interlake collisions, but whe you racing small boats..itskinda like bumper boats..as for pwcs... destroyed more than i can count, bustedengines loos, cracked hulls, broke water boxesetc...but then again jumping boatwakes is for wusses...we were jumping surf..hit a 10~12 verticlefaceon a 7' pwc doing 55...you go stright up 20 feet

Re: How many people on this site have been in a boating accident?

10 years ago me my wife and 2 small kids where out for a weekend on our cruiser type boat. My wife went down below to make some lunch . The alcohol stove went out and she started to refill the canister . The flame from the other burner jumped over and all hell broke loose . Monica came screaming up jumped over the 3 of us sitting on the swim platform on fire into the water .Something like a Bond Movie . I grabbed the 2 kids threw them in the water . Good thing they where wearing PFDs . Then went about putting out the fire . What a mess the interior was toast . We finnished that year of boating and sold the cruiser . Now after 10 years we are back but in a TopGun with no alcohol stove .
