Borden Light Marina Cigarette Poker Run 11th Year!

NOTES FROM LAST YEAR:

Borden Light Marina[/URL] located in the former textile capitol in the world, Fall River MA and home of the infamous Lizzie Borden, held its 9th annual high performance Poker Run on Narragansett Bay. 51 Boats dominated the Bay on a 69 mile course that includes 5 card stops. West Wind Marina in Newport RI continues to host us every year for our lunch stop. Located in the heart of Newport Harbor we all tie together, get our third card while chowing down on “Lobsta” rolls. Newport RI the home of the Americas Cup and numerous International Sailing events throughout the summer whose vessels are traditionally powered by their strong southwesterly winds converts to a harbor where propulsion has changed from wind into horsepower and supercharges. No longer are tourists glaring at perfect varnished rails, white sails and a manicured crew. On this day the tourists are drawn to the florescent colors, loud noise and floating rocket ships slicing thru the harbor. With our bellies full and the sail boat traditionalist looking on, we depart West Wind in a parade like formation out of the harbor. We are off to high speeds, soaking in the sun, open water and the wind in our hair.

Leaving Newport in our rooster tails, its two more stops then idling down for the day aside the only floating bar in the North East, The Tipsy Seagull which is located at Borden Light Marina! With the engines asleep for the night it is time for the captain and crew to fire it up. The poker hands got played while the drinks began to flow followed by the complimentary Italian dinner and awards for “Best Looking Crew” & “Best looking Boat”. Every participant gets free dockage and travel lift service throughout the weekend. It’s no wonder why we continue to attract more & more boats from all over the Northeast. I’m anxious now just thinking about it and want to test my new Chief engines right now.

The best part of all the fun is last year we raised $10,000 dollars for the Fall River Boys & Girls Club and a summer camp for kids with physical ailments. How good of a party it must be for both the 1st place winner Jeff Chrzanowzsi with a 42’ Sonic & 2nd place winner Ernie Dupois with a 30’ Sutphen to donate back their winnings for the charities at the end of the night. A tremendous thanks to all that made this possible last year. This summer on August 13th it will be our 10th Anniversary and we want to make it our biggest and best run yet. Mark it down on your calendar we have a few surprises planned! The Crew at BLM is looking forward to see friends of old and new while ripping thru the Majestic waters of Narragansett Bay.
