Default Chris cat, #2 to TRS

Has anyone with a Chris cat gone from #2 drives to TRS. Since the TRS is shorter it would raise the X dimension. Would you loose stability or blow out on turns, or would you just go faster? If you went to a Konrad it would raise it even more.

I've had a Chris Cat ith SSM IIs and IIIs. They typically mount the IIs about even with the bottom of the hull. IIIs run about 3/4" above the bottom. The The shorter TRS lower wont even get the boat on plane. Spacers are not available for that swap either. You'll have to glass/recut the transom.

Not a done deal yet, but I'm getting awful close. By Saturday I will know for sure! First thing I did is my homework to see whats available for olderparts and cat/ride quality. I have only been on a cat (24Skater) once about 20 yrs ago. It left "BIG CLAW" marks.

When we bought our Chris Cat in 85 it came with TRS drives, but they kept breaking, so we switched to SSM II's. I assume you could do the reverse.

Actually, it IS possible. And they did make spacers for such a conversion. How do I know? I have one laying in my garage right now that I'm having a tough time finding a buyer for.

Here's the problem.
The SSM II boats had the transom cut for the propshaft to be even with he bottom of the boat.
The TRS boats had the propshaft several inches below the bottom of the hull. I never measured but guessing about 4+ inches.
If you bolt a TRS on a SSM II rigged boat, the propshaft will be 2" above the bottom of the boat. Result, you wont get on plane.
If you add a 2" spacer to that, the propshaft will be even with the bottom of the boat. Result, you still wont get on plane. The TRS props dont have the size or profile to run surfacing.

Ours had the transom cut for TRS. When we switched over to SSM II's, the boat would get on plane, but needed about 5000 RPM's.

Default Didn't buy it!

I looked at a bright yellow cat from Buffalo NY. Great hull and deck but it needs so many parts to finish. The guy that owns it is a stand up guy telling me it needs gas tanks. That was the final decision maker for me. To do a set of tanks you would have to cut through some major structural glassand plywood(rear seat, back and floor), and after patching it up you would have a boat with poor structural integrity.

Andy, did you call Carl at LOTO about the 2 chris cats without motors? I sent an email with his number.
