Chris Cat Weight?

I'm interested in purchasing a Chris Cat and I hear so many different weights, layups etc... How much does your or someone you know 30' cat weigh with big blocks and drives. Not looking for an exact just a much closer estimate then the ridiculous numbers I've gotten. If you don't mind also the approx weight of a steel trailer too. Just figuring out towing arrangements.

BTW, are these Kevlar or glass? thanks

Mine is a 1984 CHRIS CAT with arneson asd8 drives and blown 800 hp motors on an all steel tripple axle trailer. when i first put it together 12 years ago, i heard all of the rumors and stories about how light or heavy they were. I was even told by a salesman who sold them back in the 80s that they had one that they could not even get to plane, due to weight. My asd8 drives are 700lbs each so there is more weight there than an outdrive, and my boat holds 200 gallons of fuel. That being said i weighed mine at the local moving co scale when it had naturally asperated 500s in it and it weighed 10,600lbs full of fuel. We figure the trailer is at least 2500 so your towed weight is at least 13,100lbs. I pull it easily with an f350 diesel single axle truck, and my previous 3/4 ton gas chevy also pulled it fine. They were built like tanks, maybe that is why they are still around and run great in snotty water.

Over 10,000 sounds high, even full of fuel. I think our was like 6500-7000 plus about 4000 for the trailer. No kevlar that I know of.

weight

I am going to weigh mine this summer but 8500 lbs is the number I have. That is Non- kevlar pleasure lay up, twin big blocks w/ trannies, speedmastrs. My Myco steel trailer weighs 2500 according to Myco- They found the original paperwork!

I doubt these boats weigh 10,000, similar 30' cats are less and the AO's are lighter still.

That puts me at 11,000 total, and my Avalanche 2500 with 4.10 axle is rated to pull 12,000. I am at my limit, and the truck feels about there without being over taxed. I did put the airbags on the truck and it made a HUGE improvement for pulling. Really smoothed out the ride for truck and boat. I pull w/ 50 psi per side.

Apparently you guys know more that a certified scale. I also pull my buddy's 1982 38 cig and the total package does not feel much different than my CHRIS CAT. Mine is a former d class race boat(TROPIC HEAT), maybe it was built extra heavy, I do not know. I do know what it weighs.

Jeffey: I meant the pleasure boats. Yours is a former race boat, may be heavier and 200 gal.of fuel is 1600 lbs. the ASD's are probably 700 lbs more than outdrives. 10,600 - 700 is 9,900 lbs. Less 1600 lbs for fuel gives you 8,300 empty. Sounds close to my 8500 lb estimate. My boat has 2 - 65 gallon tanks i never go over 3/4 full. I believe your weight, not doubting that. I will find out this summer when I run my boat across the scales and may get the suprise of my life.

Still this is a great hull design- enjoy!

Cheers

I am not trying to give you a hard time, I guess i have my guard up. The OSO crowd seems to jump at the chance to badmouth people who are giving honest answers to honest questions. Sorry

Jeff, the Arnesons on your boat weight 438 lbs each. A #6 Merc weighs 620 lbs each. This is now where your weight is coming from.

Sorry RIK, according to what i was told my 16" drop box ASD8 with trim and steering was 685lbs. Do not get me wrong, i was responding to a question about CHRIS CAT weight. I LOVE MY ARNESONS and would not trade them if they weighed twice as much. If you want an endorsement, send someone to me!!!!
