Be careful w/the moisture meters. Especially a cheap one. Many boat deals ruined by poorly trained surveyors (anyone can hang out a shingle!) and his trusty moisture meter.
A good one in the right hands though can be golden.
I had a brother in-law yrs ago buying a pristine 39' Sea Ray. Had more money than sense and it took many beers to convince him he needed one. I even went over the boat with him and it "appeared" to be immaculate. All fresh water, I think 1st owner, Winter stored inside w/a cover on it and all maintenance done by same marina w/all work documented.
He finally negotiated and signed a contract contingent on satisfactory survey.
End up the stringers were rotted under both sets of motor mounts where they were lag bolted (!!!!!!!!!!!) in. Sealer on bolts broke down over time, heat, vibration and water wicked down their threads into the stringers and had no where to go.
Seller paid $9K for repair and brother in-law later said it was the best $200. he ever spent.

I guess I need to find some new places to look for a surveyor. Only one I found in the vicinity wants $20/foot plus $80/hour for the 2hr drive there and back.

That's a beautiful looking Stinger - from the pictures, it's one of the better ones I've seen, but follow the advice here and get it surveyed. Could be a lot of time and money to fix if anything is wrong.

It's definitely a 390X. The 415s had a completely different look to them. The Fittipaldi versions of the Stingers were only offered for the 312s and the 334s, not the 415s.

If you're interested in more info including pictures of Stingers, check out my website at www.chriscraftstingers.com.

I've been watching your site for quite some time looking for a 390x in my budget. Thanks for the info. I thought I read somewhere on here that the 415x was a 390x with a swim platform but I guess that was incorrect.

Anyone in east oklahoma/west arkansas wanna come with Friday for a test ride?

I NEVER say no to a boat ride

Unfortunaltely I an in Miami right now for the next couple of day so I can't make it. I know you will have a blast though!
Good luck and I hope things work out for you. I hope it is a fun ride and uneventful, meaning no problems, and you buy the boat! My buddy is drooling at the pics and wants to look at it too, as he is in love with my boat and wants to get one of his own. He is a bit tight with the wallet though...

Haven't bought it yet. Going to look at it Friday. Can't find a surveyor for less than $20/foot :O so I'm hoping to at least find a good mechanic that can run a compression & leakdown test on it.
