Re: Twin Step water pick ups
I have steps on both cats and no problem picking up water for the chillers.
The OE has dual water pick ups. One for the each engine and one for each chiller.
The Skater has only one pick up. The disadvantage of this system is the chiller line has to have a check valve so the system does not suck air so as to maintain a positive suction by the pump and water flow.
Regardless of the pick up themselves the best system has dual valves for flushing. Therefore you do not have to run the boat to flush the system. Saves a lot of work.
With a single pick up one of the extra chiller plugs has to be removed and a valve inserted for flushing. Otherwise the chillers will not get flushed. .

I guess that I am curious how "Heavy Metal Thunder" and similar boats have their pickups postiontd and what type. I am going to add blowers but I have not been able to sort out whether the pickups are an issue.

I looked at the 46's at the factory with pick ups. They were at the trailing edge of the Vee just under the notched transom.
I don't have a pic of the 46 but they would have been reight next the the bildge drains in this pic.

Hey 2112
How did your boat turn out with the ford mills that you were putting in.

The OE is on the outside of the drives. The OE has a second pickup for each collor on the bottom of the transom

Here is a couple of pics of our water pick-ups...
We have the tall sea strainers and the innercoolers are forced fed from a hose out of the top of them....always see water shooting out of the side and plenty of water pressure for the engines...
