Set up question on Gladiator, what's different?
What is with the different set up? Anybody know? Really curious about this.........
The orange one is a 2004 and is the only one set up this way, the rest are like the second picture.

When the Gladiator first came out with a staggered set-up and you wanted a right hand drive the port motor was forward. If you wanted a left hand drive (only two built I know of) the starboard motor was forward. Down the road, I think they figured out it was easier just to put the starboard motor forward.....There are no bends with the pipes and everything is going straight back and neat in the engine compartment. Also, with the pipes straight and the starboard motor forward the exhaust tips are aligned even on the back of the transom (like a side-by-side boat). The boats with the port motor forward the tips are not even on the transom. I have also noticed that some Lip-Ship Gladiators w/Zul's the pipes coming off the headers are lined up straight even with the port motor foward but I'm not sure if the transom tips are straight across like a side-by-side boat. If you do a search this topic was discussed once.
PS-The orange Gladiator is on a lift in New Jersey, Lake Cumberland does not have it

LS Jr is correct On nearly everything. I ordered the first left hand drive, starboard motor forward Gladiator( Or so i was told). I wanted to offset the driver weight with the weight of the drive shaft componentry since I boat alone often.I also wanted the pipes as even as possible across the back.
All the issues with the pipes lining up across the back are as LS jr described although even with the cross over set up, Stellings or CMI, the two inner pipes will off to one side a little bit. I worked hard and long with Randy at Stellings to center them as much as possible. Then again I have Ford big blocks which are as big as tall deck chevs with big chief heads .

PS, You can eliminate 15-17 feet of 1-1/4 inch water hose if you relocate the batteries to behind the bulkhead and relocate the sea strainers for better water ingress and egress. They really double up the hose to make it work the way those boats are rigged.
Keeping the batteries back will also help keep the weight back where you need it to keep the tail in the water on turns. The Odyssey batteries weigh about 15 lbs more (each) than the Die Hards but are so superior it is worth it. Just add two more 1/2 inch bolts to the battery mount to compensate.
