I have owned three of them all had twin 165 Mercury engines. All three structures were the same. I converted them all to outboard engines with brackets. First with the Gil brackets which rusted out and two boats with aluminum full brackets. The boat ran beautiful with 225 hp engines, low 60 high 50 mph.

Did you find that there was a difference in the height of the stern/transom between any of the three boats? Our newer boat (1976) sits lower in the water but it could be b/c of the engines although the slope of the hull looks more pronounced. We think there were some structural differences - see below.
We wanted to re-power the 1972 but found that the stringers prevented us from getting new blocks - there was not room to do so. The boat had twin 165 mercruisers. So we sold it and bought the 1976. which we re-powered with twin 300 mercruisers (Mercury MerCruiser 350 MAG MPI (300-hp) small-block V-8). The 1976 is faster than the 1972 but our top speed is 40 knots. I think we used to do 35-38 knots in the 1972 with the original twin 165s. So we don't go much faster.
I can't seem to upload photos but will send to your email if you are interested.

I didn't see any difference in the years. The police here had a couple of 27 magnums with 350's and the hull is basically the same (6" difference) and their boats didn't go much faster then the 165's but the boat sat much lower in the back and I was told they had problems when stopping fast with water coming over the transom. The cigarette ran beautiful with outboards and a full bracket. If you want to send pictures i am at [email protected].
