Default Bullet Depth Sounder

I would like to install a depth sounder in my Bullet. Anyone know of a reliable spot to mount the in-hull transducer? I assume somewhere in the engine compartment as most of the boat foward from there is not touching the water at speed.

The one in my Cafe is mounted "near" the bilge pumps. You can see it in this picture to the right of the starboard bilge pump......

Edit - I'll upload the picture later. Having Site problems...

Thanks - I'll look for the picture.

Do you think the inner hull was cut through with the coring removed and the transducer epoxied to the outer hull, or it just blasts through all layers?

it wont work reliably thru all the layers, you have to remove down to the outer glass i believe.

Hi Don

Is there not one from the factory in yours? Usually it is mounted through the core on the starboard side bildge apprx 12" from the 2nd bulkhead close to the stringer. If you want I'll take a measurement.

No- nothing from the factory. The style I have is a Hummingbird that has an offset feature that allows it to be mounted anywhere that has clean water flow under it. It does not need to be at the very bottom of the hull. Is yours epoxied in, or is it in some sort of well?

It looked as if the factory used a hole saw to cut through the core and was filled in by some sort of filler. All that is exposed is the wire from the stringer into the unit. I removed mine about 10 years ago and sent it back for a re-furbish. I would'nt epoxy it in to make it permanent for "service" purposes.

Thanks Stan - Mine came with an expoxy kit, but I agree I may not want to make it permanent. I think other manufacturers put the transponders in a "well" (PVC tube) that is siliconed to the hull and it then filled with mineral oil and capped. This allows the unit to work and makes it removable.
