Correct me if I'm wrong (masses) but extension boxes will atually lower your X. Drives are on an angle to the transom and the boxes push them out; i.e. down further. Unless you're getting those adjustable boxes where you can adjust the X.

correct, your x goes down 1 inch for every 12 inches of setback., imco boxes do have an adjustment that will help. but they are pricey. I believe phils old F2 gun had boxes.

Kvogt is correct, to convert to box's and #5's is not going to be cheap, but it is well worth it, in my opinion.
I have everything that you need to convert to box's. Drive-line transmissions, Stelling's box's w/tailstocks. Gimbles and fresh #5 drives and a selection of 4bbl props. Call me if you are interested.

I'd like to point out that Gary notched the transom on his flat deck as well.
