Repowering my '85 Cig 20, Do I have enough space to repower with a merc 377 scorpion?
I know that most 20's were powered with 454 big blocks but mine had the 350 sbc package. I'd like to repower with a merc 377 scorpion but wonder about the scorpion's length of 37 inches. That would be 2 inches longer than a 496 magnum. Can anybody help me out? Right now with with the 350 installed there is about 6 inches between the front of the furthermost pulley and the engine compartment wall behind the back seat. Thanks
Jim

My engine compartment is 44 inches long from transom to firewall.
Here are the dimensions of the various motors
L/W/H
350 SBC 32/30/22
496 35/33/24
377 Scorp 37/29/20
6.2 mx 32/30/22
I really want to go with a 377 scoprion if possible. Thanks for any help

The 377 and the 350 are the same basic block. You can take all your 350 accessories and put them on a 377 if you have to have a 377 and it wont fit. I would build your 350 to a 383 stroker and have more power for a lot less $$ .

So your saying the difference in length is caused by the way the accessories are mounted on?
I don't really don't want to go that route cause I want MPI. And secondly, I don't want to have to deal with the whole process of building that engine and the frustrations that come with it. Thanks for your response

You will be fine with thestock 377 locations.... What drive are you running? Mine has a volve duo-pro and 350 chevy with sea water pump and all the goodies.
